weeAsked: What are your teething remedies?

There’s no magic cure for teething pain. But weeSpring parents have tons of great tips and tricks for making this milestone a bit easier to get through. Here’s a roundup of super helpful survey results, plus our featured list.

So, what works?

  • Give your baby something frozen to chew on: French toast sticks, fruit (especially bananas) in the Munchkin Fresh Food Feeder, breast milk ice cubes, and washcloths (cheap and easy!).
  • Try a homeopathic remedy like Hyland’s Teething Gel.
  • Use ear plugs (gotta have a sense of humor, right?).
  • Be extra cuddly (because everyone needs a hug).
  • And when in doubt, remember that this too shall pass…

Thanks to Breanna for sharing teething remedies that have helped her little guy:

1. Baltic Amber Teething Necklace: The succinic acid it releases with their body heat acts as a natural anti-inflammatory. We only remove it for bath time and put it around his ankle under a sock or his footie pajamas at night.

2. Sophie the Giraffe: She is beloved by babies and parents (and dogs!) because she’s cute and she works! I love that it’s all natural rubber and not a hair magnet.

3. Zo li Gummy Stick Baby Gum Massagers: Left to his own devices, my son will chomp on his fingers like a zombie out of The Walking Dead. The Zoli Sticks are slim, less bulky than traditional teethers, and have an ingenious stopper to prevent gagging and getting dirty when thrown (repeatedly) on the ground. Wish all toys had this feature! Easy to clean and I stash them all around the house and car.

4. Baby Banana Bendable Training Toothbrush: My little monkey chomps and chews on the brush and handles.

5. The Teethifier: This teether reaches back to molars and it’s constructed like a pacifier so it can be hands-free. Made of natural silicone, it’s easy to clean but a magnet for hair and lint so that’s a downside.

6. Pure Food Grade Essential Clove Oil + Organic Coconut Oil makes an all-natural and effective natural gum soother. The clove creates a warming sensation and helps to soothe the pain.

7. Munchkin Fresh Feeder Bag + Frozen Celery: Once foods have been introduced without adverse reactions you can offer up a cold or frozen vegetable to soothe aching gums.

8. Board Books: As much as I try to teach “books are for reading and not for eating” my son loves to chomp and chew on the stiff pages of board books.

9. Medela Breast Milk Storage Bottles: I made my own rattles by filling these containers with dried rice, pasta, edamame, etc. for different sounds and my son loves to shake and chew on them.

10. Baby Einstein Roller Pillar Activity Balls: These little balls that help promote crawling, are tiny enough to fit in little hands and my son loves to gum on them.

11. green sprouts Stacking Cups Set: Loves to stack and topple everything over like a mini Godzilla and chew on the edges of the cups.

12. Infant Ibuprofen as a last resort for discomfort. Follow the directions; find out your baby’s weight and correct dosage. Write down when the medication was given so you have records for spouses, caregivers, and the pediatrician if needed.
