Fun in the Sun: 2018 Summer Round Up

Summer means longer days, popsicles, and lightening bugs. It’s also the season where we as parents tend to be a little more lax about those nap schedules or rules regarding eating ice cream before dinner. Wherever your summer plans take you—to the beach, to the Grandparent’s, or even just around the block—below are a few of our favorite recommendations for summer fun.

(And don’t miss our post highlighting our favorite recommendations for sunscreen and protective sun gear, so while you’re having all this fun in the sun, you can rest assured you’re little ones are protected.)

Be the cutest duo at the pool!

We have to admit, we love finding matching sets with our littles, especially when the sets are a) way adorable, and b) something we’d wear on our own anyway. This summer, we’re head over heels for the new Mac & Mia collaboration with Summersalt. The Mama and Minis set takes a new twist on the best-selling asymmetrical style featuring a too-cute millennial pink suit, complete with multi-colored fringe detailing. It is a limited edition, so be sure to nab your set now!

Don’t worry Dads, we haven’t forgotten about you and your little doppelgänger! We’ve had our eyes set on the fun and whimsical matching swimming trunks from Tom and Teddy for a while now! Designed by a husband and wife team, they sought to create bright, fun, comfortable swimsuits that are great for building sandcastles as well as catching waves and everything in between.

Keep ’em Cool (and Contained)

Keeping your tot occupied while out at the park or beach can sometimes be trickier than you think, especially if you’ve got an adventurer who likes to put everything (grass, sand, wood chips) in their mouth every 6.7 seconds. Enter, the Pop ‘n Play. Now available in a basic version (just the play yard) as well as a Deluxe version that offers a full canopy, it’s a super portable and light-weight way to provide an ample, safe play space, that can be set up in seconds.  It also makes a baby-proofing while on vacation a breeze, so be sure to pack it on your travels this summer. (Want to see it in action? Check out our video review of it here.)

Bring the Splash Pad to Your Yard

Sometimes it’s too hot to even think about heading to the neighborhood park or the pool. This award-winning Sprinkler Ball from Little Tikes (a Parents’ Choice award from the Parents’ Choice Foundation) will bring hours of entertainment for kids of all ages. Simply inflate the 88″ diameter beach ball and attach your hose to let the fun begin. Once summer’s over, it deflates and stores easily and can be used for years to come (without taking up oodles of space in your garage, basement or storage shed).

Keep the Bugs (and Bites) at Bay

Buglet helps you and your kiddos say buh-bye to bug bites, without the chemicals. This one-size-fits-all brweelove_buglet1 summer gearacelet uses 100% natural essential oils to deter those pesky nibblers from getting in the way of a good outdoor play session. The bracelet has a pumice stone head that absorbs oil and consistently releases the scent (the oils are totally safe if they come in contact with the skin, even though they’re meant to stay on the stone). Recommended for kids ages three and up, these can be worn on wrists and ankles all summer long. Read why weeLove them here.

Protect Their Toes on Land or Sea!

phibian summer gearTiny toes need protection in the summertime, but with splash pads and sandboxes, you’ll want a pair that’s also water-friendly and easy to clean. (Plus, nowadays lots of summer camp programs ask your kiddos show up in closed-toe water-friendly footwear.) The Phibian from Stride Rite (as in “amphibian”) will be your go-to versatile sneaker-sandal, allowing your tot to go from “sand to sea, lawn to lake, sidewalk to sprinkler, and everywhere in between.” Plus, as a part of the Stride Rite family, they’re specifically designed to meet the needs of growing children and are available in little kid and big(ger) kid sizes.
