BETTER BABYPROOFING WITH AVANT GATE

From fluorescent colored toys to blinking, music-blasting bouncy seats, most things you buy for your baby aren’t exactly subtle. But believe it or not, even big babyproofing gear can actually blend in.

The Lascal KiddyGuard Avant Gate has a sleek look compared to the “baby jail” vibe most gates give off. This modern baby gate is retractable (you can do it one-handed!), which makes for easy trips up and down the stairs with a baby in tow. And after bedtime, when you’re having a fabulous dinner party (or more likely, having a fabulous snooze on the couch), the gate rolls neatly into the aluminum side casing so it’s barely noticeable when not in use. This sturdy space saver is a must-have for doorways that can’t bear the brunt of a hefty, swinging gate.

Babyproofing impacts your home from top to bottom (and so does the baby that its set up for!). But at least one contraption knows how to go incognito…

Great looking gate! One question, does it have a lock? We are currently using the “jail-style” gates (ugh) and by the time our little one was two she figured out how to unlock the gate. We need a gate for the top of our stairs, but would like one that had some sort of child-proof lock that is also relatively simple for adults to figure out

Hi Yana–Great question! The Avant has a locking feature that looks like it might be more challenging for little fingers to use, but simple enough for adults to manage. (It also can be locked while it’s open, so little ones can’t play with the gate, either.)

Btw, I have a question, is this product certified by JPMA?

    • Sarah Nau says:

      Hi Melanie,
Yes, is it JPMA certified (it actually won the JPMA Innovation Award in 2009). Additionally, The KiddyGuard Assure, Accent and Avant are tested and approved by TÜV according to the European Standard EN1930:2011 and by SGS according to the U.S. Standard ASTM F1004-13.

All components are tested and meet the standard for children products according to REACH(EU) and CPSIA (U.S.).

  5. Gate for stairs , my stairs have wall on one side and iron railing on the other
Will a cool baby gate fit my space . If so what measures do they come in?

    • Sarah Nau says:

      Hi Debbie,

It can be mounted inside a door and stairway openings, or on the wall in front of door or stairway openings – anything up to 100cm (40 in.) width for the Assure and Accent models, and up to 120 cm (48 in.) width for the Avant.
