A love letter to Dropcam
An important thing about weeSpring: it’s not about “the best” of anything. With babies, there is no best… There’s best for YOU. And your baby, and your family.
The best stroller in suburban Illinois is really different from the best stroller in San Francisco. And the best stroller for a tall city-dweller who loves to jog is different than a petite city-dweller living in a studio apartment. That’s why we built weeSpring… because the people you trust and know (and know are like you) are going to be able to help you figure out what’s best for you.
Over the past couple weeks, Ally and Melissa have been posing “Big Qs” on the blog, and sharing their own lists of things like essentials to make breastfeeding easier —but didn’t have a SINGLE overlapping product. So despite being good friends, there are a zillion things that make our parenting lives totally different: Melissa has twins (which Ally can see isn’t just doubly-hard… its 100x more complicated.) Melissa has a roomy house, and Ally is the prototypical NYC apartment; every morning, the first thing she thinks when she wakes up is, “We need more space!” And with Melissa in the ‘burbs, she needs gear that’s easy to get in and out of a car, while Ally calls her stroller her baby car and thinks of its basket in terms of its “trunk space.”
So all of that is a long-winded way of reiterating that we use weeSpring to spotlight must-haves from the broader community, perennial favorites Aden+Anais*, Plum Organics and Happy Baby, UPPAbaby, and the list goes on… But every once in a while, we (and there’s rare full agreement from Melissa and Ally on this one!) discover a product we think is a game-changer, but the weeSpring community hasn’t yet embraced it.
So, we’d like you to meet Dropcam, a wi-fi enabled camera that you can watch live from your iPhone or any web browser. We’re ready to declare it a universal must-have for parents, especially parents like us who work a lot and sometimes miss out on the regular every day moments that mean so much. It’d be better to be there in person, but if we can’t, it’s awfully nice to be able to peek in on naptime from our iPhones running between meetings. Also, it’s cheaper than a video monitor, and it connects to your wifi in about two minutes.
So, let’s get this rolling… Hop on weeSpring and rate the Dropcam “want” if we’re making it sound as awesome as we think it is.
